Revive or Reform?

Psalm 119:25 (NASB) says, “My soul cleaves to the dust; Revive me according to Your word.”

Psalm 119:107 (NASB) says, “I am exceedingly afflicted; Revive me, O LORD, according to Your word.”

Psalm 119:154 (NSAB) says, “Plead my cause and redeem me; Revive me according to Your word.”

It is amazing that as you read the longest chapter of the Bible, which is Psalm 119, that you will find revival as the interwoven theme. David mentions for God to “revive” him quite often, and it is not because he forms an amazing worship team and band, but according to God’s Word. He understood and knew that in order to be revived spiritually, his life had to be in complete alignment with what God had spoken to and over him, even past generations because God’s Word is not void and does not change. Therefore, instead of chasing what you view as revival movements, be in devotion to the Word of God and position yourself in humility and prayer to listen to what God has to say to you in this day and hour!

If you confess that you need revival, what you are really saying is that you are spiritually dead! In other words, instead of reading about movements of the past and comparing it to now, causing you to feel like you are living way below the standard or bar of radical Christianity, you must ask yourself whether or not you are truly carrying the Spirit of God! You are not dead if you are a carrier of His presence. Therefore, if you have an active prayer life and you are walking in obedience to God’s Word daily, then you do not need revival. In fact, you simply not become the movement and have the confidence in what you are carrying! You have the authority to heal the sick and reach the lost with the gospel! What you need is not revival, but reformation in your way of thinking and believing. Now, some things that have died religiously need to remain dead and buried in a graveyard somewhere, but reformation is necessary to walk in kingdom authority and power. Instead of chasing the next great revival, conference or prophetic word, you steward the last Word faithfully in which you have received. You reform the way you do church to make it look more like unity, love and a community of believers. It reflects more of the early church in the book of Acts rather than a 501(c)(3) organization! Therefore, when you are praying for revival, you need to ask yourself, “Do I need to pray more for a reformation?” or, “Am I really spiritually dead?” Once you can answer those questions truthfully and with conviction, then you will have a better sense of direction concerning how to pray!
