Get Rooted!

Ephesians 3:14-21 says, “14For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. 20Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

Colossians 2:6-10 says, “6As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.”

Paul instructed the church of Ephesus and Colosse to be rooted, an advice and command that we need to follow and obey in this generation now more than ever. The first step into being rooted in God’s love and Word is simply to receive the word and revelation of Christ in faith. We must receive His Word into our hearts, believing and confessing in Him to receive salvation. Once we do, we will sell out to Him in prayer, fasting and devotion to His Word. We will maintain a relationship with God founded upon love. You are not going to wither the storms of life and the winds of false doctrine with a root in religion that is filled with hatred and condemnation, but you will when you are rooted in love. The reason is because you are able to defend the very gospel you preach and proclaim to live by. When you are in love with someone, you will defend them you and love for them. If you love God, you will defend Him with everything inside of you. You must be rooted in His love and grow upon the Word of God if you want to overcome anything this world throws at you!

The storms of life are those troubles that come your way that seeks to remove you from your place in Christ. It can be the terrible report of cancer, a foreclosure on a home, a loved one experiencing an automobile accident, etc., but whatever it is, you are able to remain strong in faith because you know who God is. You do not just know about Him through an acquaintance, but you know Him personally because you received His Word into your hearts, and you are rooted in His love. The only way that God is able to do such works through you that it is beyond any human reasoning that you have in accordance to the power that is within you is when you are rooted. Your faith does not waver because of your circumstance, but you trust God in knowing that all things work together because of your love for Him!

The winds of false doctrine cannot uproot you because your roots are too deep! Philosophy, manmade ideas, traditional fundamentalism and religion that has no Biblical foundation cannot shake you. Gnosticism that takes Biblical imagery and misuses it to promote their own arrogance and version of worship will not tear you down. The reason is because you are rooted in the absolute truths founded in the Bible. Sure, it may sound welcoming and enticing, but you say “no” to it because you know that false doctrine and teaching will lead to destruction. So, be encouraged to not be rooted in someone else’s idea or revelation of God. Be rooted in God’s love for yourself, unshakeable, unmoveable and unstoppable in the faith, knowing who God is!
