Carrying Out The Enemy’s Desires

John 8:44 (TPT) says, “You are the offspring of your father, the devil, and you serve your father very well, passionately carrying out his desires. He’s been a murderer right from the start! He never stood with the One who is the true Prince, for he’s full of nothing but lies—lying is his native tongue (doing what is natural to him). He is a master of deception and the father of lies!”

According to John 8:44, the Pharisees carried out Satan’s desires, or lusts (KJV). In order to do so, we must know what his will is. In context in John 8:31-47 (Passion), you carry out Satan’s will when you:

1) Become a slave to your sin (v. 34). You open the door to sin and through committing it habitually, it forms a stronghold and addiction.
2) Desire to kill (remove) Christ (v. 37). When you take Jesus out of everything, removing the fruit of His death, burial and resurrection out of your life, you will carry out Satan’s desires.
3) Close your heart to Christ’s message (vv. 43, 47). In order to walk in total freedom and deliverance, you must be willing to handle any form of rebuke or chastisement in love. You must be capable of hearing and accepting the truth because it is the truth that makes people free (John 8:32).

2 Timothy 2:22-26 (Passion) says, “22 Run as fast as you can from all the ambitions and lusts of youth; and chase after all that is pure. Whatever builds up your faith and deepens your love must become your holy pursuit. And live in peace with all those who worship our Lord Jesus with pure hearts. 23 Stay away from all the foolish arguments of the immature, for these disputes will only generate more conflict. 24 For a true servant of our Lord Jesus will not be argumentative but gentle toward all and skilled in helping others see the truth, having great patience toward the immature. 25 Then with meekness you’ll be able to carefully enlighten those who argue with you so they can see God’s gracious gift of repentance and be brought to the truth. 26 This will cause them to rediscover themselves and escape from the snare of Satan who caught them in his trap so that they would carry out his purposes.” V. 26 in the KJV says, “And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”

You can be taken captive by Satan’s will, and you will do so when you:

1) Pursue your own ambitions, lusts and impurities, running away from what builds your faith and deepens your love: the glory of God.
2) Live outside of peace.
3) Engage in foolish arguments.
4) Refuse to shine the light of Christ in humility.
5) Too prideful to repent.
6) Never know your identity in Christ.

In other words, it happens when you fall prey to the snares of Satan. Snares are the traps the enemy sets in order to hook someone, bringing them out of the will of God and into his own. They can be:

1) Idols – Exodus 23:33; 34:12; Deuteronomy 7:16; Judges 2:3; Psalm 106:36; 1 Timothy 6:9
2) Wrong Covenanted Relationships – 1 Samuel 18:21; Proverbs 22:25
3) Speaking Prior to Thinking – Proverbs 18:7
4) Rash Promises Before God – Proverbs 20:25
5) Angry and Immature Leaders – Proverbs 29:8; 1 Timothy 3:1-7
6) The fear of man – Proverbs 29:25
7) Lack of Preparation or Bad Timing – Ecclesiastes 9:12; Luke 21:34-36

The purpose of snares is to simply destroy you. You break free from them through the law of the wise (Proverbs 13:14) and the fear of the LORD (Proverbs 14:27). This indicates the need of structure, discipline and obedience in order to avoid and expose traps of the enemy.
