The Battle With the Depression is Over, Pt. 2

Psalm 19:14 says, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”

When facing depression, too many people make the wrong approach by seeking the wrong avenues to cope with it. They become distracted enough so they can tolerate it, acting as though the depression doesn’t even exist! God doesn’t want us to cope, but lean on and trust in Him, allowing His holy presence to come and baptize us with joy unspeakable and full of glory! According to Proverbs 31:6-7, some people can try to drink away their sorrows and pain, but putting away the alcohol is not the deliverance to depression. Jesus is! Other can isolating themselves from everyone, or even cling to everything that is negative! Simply put, if you want the battle with depression to end, then you must attack the negatives with positives! This is how you do it:

1) A renewed hope and vision in life. Proverbs 18:14 (TPT) says, “The will to live sustains you when you’re sick, but depression crushes courage and leaves you unable to cope.” Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when it comes it is a tree of life (Proverbs 13:12). It may seem like your dreams are fading, but you will go through moments like these because you do not see the full picture. Some things happen that seem completely opposite of your dreams because they are just a few pieces of a huge puzzle! They are stepping stones to shaping you, making your dreams a reality!

2) Engage the presence of the LORD with pure worship and no selfish ambition in mind (Psalm 16:11).

3) The confirmation of your identity as a son/daughter delivers you from an introverted spirit and transforms you to walk with boldness of the Holy Spirit.

4) Stop exerting all of your time and energy on things that are unnecessary. Work part-time if necessary and be there for your family. Money doesn’t buy happiness. Do not make your time with the LORD as the least or most unnecessary part of your day.

5) Meditate on God’s Word and what He says about you. Never have a standard higher than God’s. Your obedience is your only requirement! Some emotional healing can take time, but you put into practice the prayer of meditation, take authority over your mind and fill it with the thoughts and potential of heaven, you give no room for the enemy to slip in those lies of, “It will never get better”, “You will never be good enough”, or “No one loves or cares about you”. Why would God ever say anything like that! You will have a greater discernment to know and walk in His truth!

Depression can either propel you into humility and recognize the greatness of your God, or it can hold you back from living out the potential of heaven with kingdom purpose. Therefore, it is important to search your heart through the lens of the Holy Spirit to see where the depression first entered in, causing you to lose confidence in God and who you are in Him, and repent, shutting the door to those lies of the enemy (Hebrews 10:35). Once you uncover the source, give your mind thoughts to think by reading, meditating up and praying the Word of God! Everyone else’s opinion of you diminishes in value when comparing with the Word of God! These lies can never hold a candle to the truth! Get your mind back and take authority with your words. Depressed people do not set depressed people free, but your testimony of freedom give you an anointing to prophecy into someone else’s life so they can be free! So, receive your liberty, walk in that freedom, and set others free with the grace and mercy God has extended to you!
