Acts 2:1-4 (NASB) says, “1When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.”

• After Christ’s resurrection, He had visited His disciples for 40 days, bringing revelation of the kingdom of God as well as providing infallible proofs of who He was and what took place. Jesus commanded them to not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father and they would be baptized with the Holy Ghost in not too many days from that moment. When they received the Holy Ghost, they would become witnesses throughout the whole earth (Acts 1:3-5, 8). Five hundred people had seen Jesus ascend to heaven (1 Corinthians 15:6), but ten days later, on the day of Pentecost, the number had dwindled down to 120. Three hundred eighty had lost hope! Hopelessness and the busyness and distraction of life can rob you of your “suddenly”! 
• The unity of who remained by being one accord in prayer (Acts 1:14) produced a sound from heaven that filled the house where they were, and once it filled them, it overflowed into the streets! 
• The purpose of this “suddenly” was not to produce a “feel good” moment and encounter for His disciples and others who believed, but to empower them to be witnesses in the earth and produce sons and daughters who walk in the same authority as Jesus Christ, for “as He is so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17). It was to have the supernatural ability and anointing to preach the gospel in languages to which people can understand, as well as pray the language of heaven! 
• This “suddenly” removed the necessity of going to a priest to pray, intercede and sacrifice on your behalf, but you entered into a royal priesthood, becoming the Temple of the Holy Spirit! 

Acts 9:1-9 (NASB) says, “1Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest, 2and asked for letters from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, both men and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 3As he was traveling, it happened that he was approaching Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him; 4and he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” 5And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” And He said, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, 6but get up and enter the city, and it will be told you what you must do.” 7The men who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one. 8Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing; and leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus. 9And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.” 

• Saul did nothing to provoke this “suddenly”, but the light broke through because if he was that ambitious for an empty religious cause, how much more can he accomplish working for the King of Kings? Many were afraid of and threatened by him, but God recognized his potential for the kingdom! 
• Your “suddenly” will put you before men with a testimony of the goodness of God and the greatness of His power (Acts 22:6). 
• How you respond to persecution can produce a “suddenly” for someone else! Matthew 5:44 says, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you”. I have to be convinced that the prayers of disciples in obedience to Christ’s commands played a significant role in Paul’s conversion and radical transformation. It was more than releasing forgiveness to those who wronged them, but it was about them praying the will of their heavenly Father, creating a pathway for God to intervene!
• Sometimes an encounter with the light of Christ can knock you off of your high horse and make you blind in order for you to see again! At first, it may not appear as a very good “suddenly”, but the end game is your humility and conversion to the truth. It produces a transformation in you to embrace the gospel you once persecuted.
