Sons and Daughters of the Kingdom, Pt. 1

Mark 12:32-34 says, “32And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: 33And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.”

While we are in upside down kingdom that is based upon servanthood, we must not be possessed with a servant mentality. A servant mentality is like a slave mentality. It is when someone feels like that they have to do bunch of good deeds in order to make up for the price that Jesus paid at Calvary, when the fact of the matter is that there is nothing we can do to compensate for the price of redemption through Christ’s blood and sacrifice. If that is our attitude, we will never have any joy in life. We will always be depressed and discouraged because we will always feel as though we are never good enough. The only thing we will accomplish is that we will rob ourselves of God’s grace, which is His unmerited, or undeserving, favor. While we should have the heart of a servant, it should not be because we feel like we are forever in debt, or because we are trying to win the right to have a “holier than thou” attitude, but rather because we love God with all of our hearts and we are so grateful for all that He has done in our lives. And no man after that durst ask him any question.” A true servant has the heart of the king, which is loving God and loving people. It is not about making ourselves great, but it is about magnifying the name of God to those who need it most! When we accomplish these things, we are not far from the kingdom. It is more than just doing a bunch of good deeds and following a list of rules. It is about chasing after the heart of God!

The true revelation is that we are more than servants. In fact, God does not see us as servants like the way we see ourselves a lot of times, but we are sons and daughters of the King!  Before Jesus Christ ever came on the scene, and before we ever accepted Jesus as the LORD and Savior of our Lives, we always had the mindset of servants, maximizing our value on minimal issues. Paul calls them the “beggarly elements”, meaning that they were poor matters that considered the highest priority. They made horrible traditions the chief principles of their doctrine. Nonetheless, Jesus Christ broke through those traditional walls when He was conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of a virgin womb, being fully man and fully God, so that He could die and resurrect, bridging the gap between God and man. Now, we are no longer under the law, but under grace! Jesus came under the law, but He introduced us to the grace of Almighty God because the law of Moses breeds servants, but the grace of God begets sons and daughters of the Kingdom!

Jude said ungodly men “turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness.” That means that immoral preachers pervert the grace of God by using God’s grace as an excuse or crutch to sin by fulfilling the lusts of their flesh and eyes. A good example of this is the “once in grace always in grace” view, which is a Calvinist belief that has never been founded on the Word of God! Grace should never be used as a pathway to appease the flesh or to approve sin, but rather a way to live holy before God. The grace of God should never be seen as, “I can do whatever I want and still make it to heaven because of grace,” but rather, “As I draw closer to God, I may fall and mess up, but His grace will forgive me and strengthen me to press towards the mark of holiness.” His grace is not a permit to sin, but a license to live holy as God is holy and reflect His image as His child.

Galatians 5:1, 13-15 says, “1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage…13For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 15But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.”

When Paul wrote this letter to the Galatian church, he was referring to the Judaizers brainwashing the new Christian converts by bringing them back under the old covenant of the Mosaic law rather than under the grace and freedom founded in the sacrifice Jesus paid with His life at Mount Calvary. They had done the right things, such as praying through confession and repentance, believing in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but now, they were reviving the works of the law rather than living lives of faith. That is why Paul was teaching for these Christians to hold fast and stand firm in the very freedom that Christ had given them and to not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Christ Jesus had become the perpetual sacrifice for the cleansing of immorality, and it is through faith in the Son of God that we still today can be forgiven and changed forever!

The original purpose of the law was to teach mankind right from wrong, good from evil, blessing from cursing. It provides a list of do’s and don’ts that shows people how to live a moral life that was pleasing to God. Its mission was to distinguish Israel from the surrounding nations, tribes and peoples so that they could be a peculiar treasure in the sight of God. The LORD knew where certain sins could lead to, and the laws were to protect His people from harm and evil in the long run. Engaging in sodomy or having multiple sexual partners via Baal worship could easily spread multiple sexually transmitted diseases. Worshiping Molec in the sacrificing of their baby children by making them pass through the fire would usher in emotional heartbreak and bitterness against themselves. Just as a parent gives rules to their kids, such as to not talk to strangers or make it back by a certain curfew, so that they can avoid a manifold of problems, God gave the law to His people to guard them.

Psalms 119:45 says, “And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.” David was teaching, in the longest chapter in the Bible the importance of God’s commandments, that there is freedom from bondage by obeying His Word. It is not freedom to go have an abortion, have premarital or extramarital relations, or be a homosexual because those things lead to bondage. Sin leads to death, but righteousness leads to life! People may believe God’s Word only enslaves, but, in reality, it gives liberty! John 8:31-36 says, “31Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

The infallible Word of God only proclaims truth, and by obeying and believing on the scriptures and the words that Jesus said, we will be made free! Now, with salvation through Jesus Christ, people have completely aborted the law, teaching vain doctrines that with Christ’s initial coming, the law was done away with entirely. So, righteousness and sin is now determined by each individual’s private interpretation of the Bible. They are free to do as they desire because they can just “apologize” rather than “repent” for their sins before they lay their head down at night and God’s grace will continue to cover them. This automatically breaks the first commandment that Jesus gave, which is to “love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” (Matthew 22:37). This is all an informality and a corruption of the true teachings of God’s Word, which results in permanent bondage!
