Nations as an Inheritance

Psalm 2:7-8 (NASB) says, “7 “I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD:
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8 ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance,
And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.”

The greatest title you can ever have in the kingdom of God is not “pastor”, “preacher”, “apostle”, “prophet”, “father”, “teacher”, etc. So many are looking for self-gratification through obtaining a title, and we oftentimes receive affirmation by what we can accomplish in ourselves. Don’t get me wrong. It is God’s will for us to receive the fruit of our labor, but our identity is not secure through what we do, but rather who we are. Therefore, the greatest title we can be called in the kingdom of God is “son” because it indicates that we have been born again, saved through Jesus Christ, and we pray and call upon God as “Father”.

This takes us to this main scripture here today. God gives us a promise in Psalm 2, which is truly amazing. He doesn’t say you have to go to church all of your life and be saved for over 15 years to receive this inheritance. He also doesn’t state that you have to be a missionary, pastor or evangelist in order to obtain this, but because you are a child of God, you can simply ask for it, and God will give you the nations as an inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as your possession. This almost sounds like a promise for the tribes of Israel expanding their territory, but in the kingdom of God, through Jesus Christ, we can pray and ask God for the nations of the earth, meaning that we are believing for souls to be saved, lives to be changed and nations to be culturized with the kingdom of God!

We should not underestimate God’s ability because this sounds like a huge prayer, but if you could do it in yourself, why pray, depend upon and trust God? He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). He is such a big and mighty God! We have limited God with weak, anemic prayers when God is so much bigger than us. He is able to make a way where there seems no way. Do not limit God with doubt, but realize who you are in Him, and know the nations are truly our inheritance as believers! Let’s pray, believe and ask God for it! He is challenging us to do so!
