More Than a Spirit of Excellence

Galatians 6:2-5 (TPT) says, “2 Love empowers us to fulfill the law of the Anointed One as we carry each other’s troubles. 3 If you think you are too important to stoop down to help another, you are living in deception. 4 Let everyone be devoted to fulfill the work God has given them to do with excellence, and their joy will be in doing what’s right and being themselves, and not in being affirmed by others. 5 Every believer is ultimately responsible for his or her own conscience.”

The kingdom of God functions in a spirit of excellence. Whatever we set our hearts to succeed in, whether it is in our families, businesses, academics, athletics, etc., we set goals to achieve and follow the right paths to get there. We adapt and learn through failures, as well as practice and study to the best of our abilities in order to sharpen skills and wisdom. Regardless of what our passion might be, we are called to fulfill the work God has given us by being devoted in such a way that we do things with excellence. However, one step beyond a spirit of excellence is to operate in the anointing and presence of God!

How do you operate in the anointing? Get as close to Jesus as you can, insomuch that the fragrance of who He is gets on you. It is functioning on earth just as Christ is operating right now at this moment. You do not earn the anointing of God, but you freely receive it because of the finish work of the cross the power of Christ’s resurrection. In other words, you are anointed because He is anointed!

We can focus so intently on doing things in excellence that we miss the opportunity of being in devotion to God’s presence and helping those surrounding us. For example, you may be a teacher in children’s ministry, and you are spending a great deal of time studying and preparing the lesson. As you are putting videos or games together, as well as thinking of ways to get kids excited and to feel welcome, you are showing how committed you are to do things in excellence. However, if your planning and preparing do not collaborate with time in prayer to hear from and speak to God our Father, then you can miss the opportunities to simply be refreshed in God’s presence and grow in the anointing of God. It is available, but your pursuit will indicate exactly what you are passionate about! Pursue God’s anointing, and from that place, flow in a spirit of excellence!
