Psalm 110:1-4 (KJV) says, “1 The LORD (Jehovah – The God who exists) said unto my Lord (Adonai – Jesus who is Sovereign), Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.”
2      The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
3      Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
4      The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order (suit, cause, style, estate reason) of Melchizedek.” (parenthesis is my emphasis)

Joshua 10:23-25 says, “23And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon. 24And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them. 25And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.” This promise and confidence of victory is tied into Joshua being strong and of good courage and meditating on God’s Word day and night! (Joshua 1:8-9) You cannot expect to go from Egypt to a Promised Land without facing giants and enemies, but you can be of good courage and fear not because He has already put every enemy under your feet. You can fight and overcome with a promise because you are seated with Christ, His enemies are your enemies and His resurrection testifies of your new beginning!

 

1 Kings 5:3 says, “Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.” Solomon understood that he could not build a temple to house the glory of God until David’s enemies were under his feet. But under the new covenant, we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, housing the glory of God! We are able to freely worship and function in God’s presence because our enemies have been defeated through Christ’s death, burial and resurrection!

 

What if the reason Jesus is still seated and has not returned is because His enemies are to be made a footstool? Jesus originally left his seat in heaven to fashion Himself as man and became obedient to the death, even the death of the cross, to put his enemies to a public shame and to conquer death and hell (Philippians 2:8; Colossians 2:14-15; Revelation 1:18). However, He is seated because He is waiting for us to do the same, becoming obedient to the death of our cross and walk in victory on the earth! Is the cross worth making your enemies a footstool? Your enemy is not flesh and blood, but it is anxiety, depression, fear, cancer, viruses, and anything that did not originate from the nature of God but was the production of sin!
