Kingdom Prayers

Luke 11:2 says, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.”

If we as the body of Christ are going to function and operate in the authority of the kingdom of God, then it is important that we pray kingdom prayers! It goes beyond reciting the LORD’s prayer, but it is about decreeing God’s will in the earth, which places a mandate upon us to be obedient. This doesn’t mean treating God like He is a fairy tale myth, such as Santa Claus, who will give us whatever we wish if we pretend to be good! It is about activating the will of God in the earth!

How do we accomplish this in prayer? First of all, it begins with worship! Worship is an invitation to God to come in the power of the Holy Spirit to bring about His kingdom in the earth. We are not talking about a physical kingdom, but a spiritual one, which is righteousness, joy and peace in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17). It is a prayer that focuses on shifting and changing the culture, cultivating the ground so God’s presence is welcomed and embraced. This cannot happen if our prayers are more about grumbling and complaining instead of worshipping and declaring!

What does the kingdom of God look like? It is God’s will being done on earth as it is in heaven. This means the earth goes back to the original design of God to be a pure and perfect reflection of heaven. Therefore, this means dying to our will to take upon ourselves the identity and nature of Jesus Christ, and this goes beyond our personal lives, but it taps into God’s will for our homes, communities, cities, regions and nations! Everything should be connected to God’s DNA being stamped upon where we go, what we touch, what we say and how we walk! It is time we focus our prayers not on what we want, but what God wants!

So, be encouraged to pray this prayer, or one similar in your own words:

“Father, you are holy, righteous and perfect in every way. As your child, I declare you kingdom come and your will to be done as in heaven so in Pineville (or whichever city you live). I pray that there is a greater shift in my heart to be like you, that my will transforms into yours! May revival fire cover my home and community, and fill me with your Spirit to be bold in loving and freeing people! I thank you that a cultural shift is taking place, and from this day forward, my life and my city will never be the same in Jesus’ name!”
