Following Hard After Jesus

Psalm 63:8 says, “My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.”

Everyone of us at some point in our lives have used glue. From a kindergarten project to fixing something in the house, glue comes in handy. However, have you ever put glue on something and then realize you put it on the wrong place? You immediately pull the object away, maybe even wipe the glue off, knowing that you cannot afford those two objects to stick at a specific place. If you give just a minute or two, what you have glued together will become significantly inseparable, and the only way it may separate is if you have to damage something in order to pull it apart. Therefore, you better know for sure what you are glueing together.

In the same way, our souls should follow so hard after Jesus Christ that we become glued to His presence. Oftentimes, we enter worship in a church setting on a Sunday morning or Wednesday night, and we are challenged to pursue the glory of the LORD. We draw closer to Him and feel the effects of His nearness, but something in us causes us to pull away, even to the point that we do not sustain a life of worship before God on a daily basis. We allow things in life to distract and hinder us, causing us to second guess if we really need to follow Jesus, and not just follow Him, but go after Him with everything inside of us. Once we attach ourselves to His presence, we must refuse to let go, becoming inseparable from His lovingkindness, which is better than life (Psalm 63:3).

If we have been glue to the identity of Christ, insomuch that it becomes a part of us, but then we allow our circumstances and situations we face to influence us to pull away, it will damage our character, spirituality and mentality in Christ. Once we experience His authentic grace, glory and power, the last thing we should do is turn away from it. We should be as Moses, who said, “If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence” (Exodus 33:15). We must have the presence of God, refusing to go to the next stages of our lives without Him!
