By His Stripes

Isaiah 53:5 says, “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

1 Peter 2:24 says, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”

It is amazing to note that anyone who believes on the LORD Jesus Christ as the author and finisher of their faith can receive their healing. Out of all of the verses in scripture, not one time will you find where Jesus turned a person completely away, refusing to give them what they were believing or asking for. It is not hope but faith that moves God into action, and if we will exercise that very same faith today, we can get exactly what we need from Him.

In the main text, we read a verse in both the Old and New Testament that sound quite similar. They both focus on the suffering of Jesus, how that through Him we can find healing, salvation, and deliverance. While Isaiah prophesied of it in his day way before that it happened, Peter affirmed the prophecy, but there is some key verbs to focus on. Isaiah said that “with his stripes we ARE healed.” Although Jesus Christ had not made it to the cross yet, Isaiah was claiming that he was presently healed for the work that would take place in the years to come! Many people use the same phrases today in regards to receive the miracle that they so desperately need. They say that they are healed with the stripes that laid upon our Savior’s back, but they claim it in a way as though it has not happened yet. Christ has already finished the work. All that we have to do is believe and accept it!

This is the reason why Peter said “by whose stripes ye were healed”. Peter knew that Christ had already fulfilled His mission, bearing his healing on the cross of Mount Calvary. Therefore, he did not say that he might be healed or that he would be healed one day, but rather that he was already healed! Peter seen and knew of the sufferings and the resurrection of his Rabbi and mentor, the Son of God, and he knew that he was who he said he was. He witnessed it with his very own eyes, and that is why he was already healed!

Although we have not lied eyes on Jesus, we are blessed because we still believe in Him. John 20:29 says, “Jesus saith unto him, ‘Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.'” The reason we are blessed is because it demonstrates our greatest faith, understanding that the tomb is empty and that our source of healing, salvation, and deliverance is in Him. This is a work that has already been done, and it can be made manifest even in our lives today if we will walk in that same faith!
