An Open Heaven

Deuteronomy 28:12 says, “The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.”

We are sitting under “an open heaven”! That can be a cliche phrase if you do not really get the gist of what it means. It is not a fairy tale or mythical idea, but it is a reality! It does not mean there is a physical hole in the universe or galaxy, but it does mean we have a real, genuine access to God, our heavenly Father, who is seated upon His throne! It means we can worship and speak directly to God’s heart, and we can hear His Word spoken to and over us as He pours out His blessing and favor upon His people.

In Deuteronomy 28, God tells the children of Israel that they will receive blessings or curses based upon their obedience or disobedience. Obedience automatically opens the heavens. They do not have to sit under a “brazen” heaven and “iron” earth (Deuteronomy 28:23), which means that no rain is falling and nothing is being produced from the ground. There is no outpouring of God’s Spirit as our prayers are just simply “bouncing off the walls”. What attracts the presence of God is our obedience because our obedience serves as a testament of our faith in Him! Therefore, it is more than declaring for or asking the heavens to open. It is tied in with our obedience!

The evidence of the heavens being opened is not only when God’s voice is heard (Revelation 4:1) but when righteousness is raining down and salvation is being produced in the earth (Isaiah 45:8). In other words, REVIVAL HAPPENS! Manmade, Pharisee religion will never cause the heavens to open over us. But it is about God releasing His vision and dream into our hearts and then we choose to live it out! It is time for not only the heavens to open, but to remain opened!
