A God Who is Able

Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”

Jude 24 says, “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.”

When I think of God, I think of the One who is able to make the impossible possible, a way where there seems no way. I think about the God who has no limits as long as we put our faith in Him. He is able to be strong and magnified in our lives when we choose to live a life that fully pleases Him. Whether it is a miraculous healing, the salvation of a lost soul, divine protection from devastation or harm, or supernatural provision, He is more than able to meet that need. He is just that Big!

In the above texts, the Bible lists three things that He is able to do. The first is that He is able to do beyond what our minds and hearts can even grasp. He can do things that can simply blow our minds away. However, He accomplishes those things according to the power that works within us. If you are a child of God, you have power inside of you because His Spirit rests and abides within you. God’s power is unfailing and limitless, and when His powers dwells within a bodily temple, His people can possess the same authority over the devil as Jesus Christ did when He walked this earth. That includes sin, sickness, diseases, and infirmities. Anything that is evil and of the devil is exactly what God has given us dominion over through the redemption of Christ’s blood and sacrifice! All we have to do is put that authority to work through our obedience to and faith in Him!

The second thing that God is able to do is to keep us from falling. We are able to live a holy life where we are not falling into temptation and sin by staying close in His presence. Holiness is not obtained through following a set of bylaws within a denomination or manmade rules to receive man’s approval, but it can only come through maintaining a consistent and continual prayer life. Holiness is a characteristic of God, one in which we can only have by seeking to be just like Him. 1 Peter 1:16 says, “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” We can keep from falling by staying in the palm of God’s hand. Even if we do fall, God can give us the strength to get back up. Proverbs 24:16 says, “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” We may fall, but we cannot stay on the ground. We must get back up and fight the good fight of faith!

The third thing God is able to do is present us faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. The word “faultless” means “without blemish” (Thayer’s Greek Definitions). God is able to present us spotless in His glorious presence with unspeakable joy because of who He is in our lives. So, not only is God able to keep us from falling while we are in this world, but He is able to present us faultless in eternity that we may forever be in the presence of God. Nothing makes God happier than for His children to be with Him forever and no longer separated from His glory. We may not be in heaven just yet, but heaven can truly come down to earth if we live by faith, for without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Let’s allow God to smile upon us today! He is able to give us exceeding abundance and exceeding joy, but it is all at the expense of our obedience to Him. If we please Him, that is all that matters!
